Solfato di neomicina è un antibiotico aminoglicosidico utilizzato principalmente per le sue proprietà antibatteriche. È derivato dal batterio *Streptomyces fradiae* ed è efficace contro un ampio spettro di batteri Gram-negativi e alcuni Gram-positivi. Il composto viene tipicamente somministrato topicamente o per via orale, spesso sotto forma di unguenti, creme o colliri, a causa della sua potenziale nefrotossicità e ototossicità quando usato sistemicamente. Neomycin sulfate also binds to prokaryotic ribosomes inhibiting translation and is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Neomycin sulfate inhibits Phospholipase C via binding to inositol phospholipids. It also inhibits phosphatidylcholine-PLD activity and induces Ca2+ mobilization and PLA2 activation in human platelets. Neomycin sulfate inhibits DNase I induced DNA degradation.
