It has phytotoxic properties and inhibits photosynthesis by inhibiting the conversion of carbon dioxide into carbohydrates. 2,6-DCAP is used to control weeds in agricultural crops, forestry plantations, and urban areas. 2,6-DCAP can be found in two different isomers: 2',4'-dichloroacetophenone and 2,4-dichloroacetophenone. The former has a greater toxicity than the latter due to its higher fluorine content. 2,6-DCAP can be identified using chromatographic methods such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This chemical can also be modified to create pyrazoles or isoxazoles.
