N-(2-Cyanophenyl)pyridine-2-carboxamide is a potent, selective NS5B polymerase inhibitor. It inhibits the production of viral RNA, which suppresses viral replication and leads to the death of infected cells. In vitro studies have shown that N-(2-Cyanophenyl)pyridine-2-carboxamide has low nanomolar activity against viruses such as Hepatitis C virus and HIV. In addition, it also has a broad range of pharmacokinetic properties including bioavailability, distribution, metabolism, and elimination with an elimination half life of approximately 2 hours.
