N-[(2S,3R,4E)-1,3-Dihydroxyoctadec-4-en-2-yl]-30-hydroxytriacontanamide is a bioactive compound that has been shown to have skin permeability and an ability to reduce the symptoms of ichthyosis. It has also been shown to be an effective treatment for mutant ichthyosis (a genetic skin disorder). In vitro assays have demonstrated that this compound increases the levels of diacylglycerol and triglycerides in cells. It also acts as a transacylase by catalyzing acylceramide synthesis. This compound may have potential in the treatment of diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus type II, obesity and cancer.
