Ethyl Valerate has been shown to have a high affinity for amyloid proteins, binding to them and inhibiting their aggregation. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of infectious agents such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV-1. Ethyl Valerate can be used as an odorant binder in cosmetic products and as a chemical intermediate in the production of fatty acids.
