Europio è un elemento chimico con il simbolo Eu e numero atomico 63, classificato come un lantano nella tavola periodica. È un metallo bianco argenteo che è relativamente morbido e può essere facilmente tagliato con un coltello. Europio è noto per le sue uniche proprietà luminescenti, in particolare la sua capacità di emettere luce rossa quando esposto a radiazioni ultraviolette, rendendolo prezioso nella produzione di fosfori per schermi televisivi a colori e luci LED. CAS:Europium is a rare earth metal and a member of the lanthanide series. Europium can exist in three oxidation states: +2, +3, or +4. In its +2 state, europium is an oxidizing agent that can react with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen chloride gas and euroxide ions. The coordination geometry of europium atoms in its +3 state is octahedral with high values. Europium ions are found in human serum as well as many bacteria and fungi.
