Descrizione:
Bromuro di alluminio (AlBr3) è un composto inorganico caratterizzato dalla sua apparente cristallina bianca o giallastra. È un acido di Lewis ed è noto per la sua natura igroscopica, il che significa che assorbe facilmente l'umidità dall'aria. Bromuro di alluminio esiste tipicamente come un dimero (Al2Br6) nello stato solido, che può dissociarsi in unità monomeriche in soluzione o quando riscaldato. Ha un alto punto di fusione ed è solubile in solventi polari come acqua e alcoli, ma meno in solventi non polari. Il composto è comunemente usato nella sintesi organica, in particolare nelle reazioni di Friedel-Crafts, grazie alla sua capacità di agire come catalizzatore. Inoltre, può essere utilizzato nella preparazione di altri bromuri e come reagente in vari processi chimici.
