Descrizione:Ammonium sulfide is a chemical compound with the formula NH4HS. It is a colorless solid that dissolves in water to give a solution of ammonium sulfide (NH4+S) at 20%. Ammonium sulfide is used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals, such as sulfuric acid and thiourea. Ammonium sulfide has been shown to be cytotoxic and inhibit oxygen transport in the nasal respiratory epithelium. It also inhibits leukocyte chemotaxis by affecting cell membrane permeability and protein synthesis. In addition, ammonium sulfide can cause morphological changes in snakehead fish larvae by binding to phosphatase enzymes, which may lead to inhibition of enzyme activity.
Ammonium sulfide is also able to inhibit growth of bacteria and fungi by means of its reaction with the amino acids methionine and cysteine, forming ammonium salts. This reaction prevents their conversion into proteins, leading to inhibition
