This chemical can also be used as a building block for the synthesis of various organic compounds with various applications. 4,6-Dimethoxy-2-methylthiopyrimidine has been shown to react with sulfones and form mesoporous materials with tunable properties. The steric effect of this compound allows it to act as an effective reducing agent in organic chemistry reactions that require hydrogenolysis. 4,6-Dimethoxy-2-methylthiopyrimidine is also able to produce hydrogen peroxide when reacted with sulfones or other reagents.
