It has been shown to be effective against lactobacillus acidophilus and human serum, as well as being able to extract analytes from these samples by dispersive solid-phase extraction. The addition of hydrochloric acid to the sample increases the efficiency of the extraction. Dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride also has significant cytotoxicity and antifungal effects. This chemical can be used in coatings and disinfectants, as well as in glycol ethers, antimicrobial agents, and influenza virus prevention.
