It is an organic compound that has two double bonds in the same molecule. 2-Decyne can be synthesized from styrene or methyl ethyl ketones. The process begins with the addition of hydrogen to the alkene group, which produces an alkyl group with two double bonds on adjacent carbons. This reaction is catalyzed by either sodium or aluminum hydride. The hydrogens are then removed from the alkyl group, producing a molecule with one double bond on each carbon atom. This reaction can be done in a liquid phase or in a particle phase by using high molecular weight solvents like benzene and chlorobenzene.
