Descrizione:(3R,3aS,6aR)-Hexahydrofuro[2,3-b]furan-3-ol is a polycyclic compound that has been shown to be an inhibitor of the transcriptional coactivator PPARγ. It is not active in its free form but needs to be activated by magnesium or other metal ions. It has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and reduce levels of PGE2. (3R,3aS,6aR)-Hexahydrofuro[2,3-b]furan-3-ol inhibits the polymerase chain reaction and dna template synthesis in vitro. This substance also induces skin cancer in rats when applied topically as a cream to sunburned skin. The mechanism of this effect is not yet known but may involve interference with cellular signaling pathways.
