It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and can be used as an antibacterial agent. 1-(6-Methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)hydrazine is also magnetic, so it can be detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This compound has shown promise as a magnetic resonance contrast agent for MRI. The synthesis of 1-(6-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)hydrazine requires a cyclic reaction with amines, which are activated by chlorination. These reactions are catalyzed by morpholine.
