Descrizione:3-Methyl-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indol-2-amine (MPI) is a mutagen that has been shown to produce tumors in mice. MPI inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA and RNA, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. It also induces mutations in bacteria by causing crosslinkage between DNA and RNA. This compound has been shown to have genotoxic potential on pancreatic tissues, as well as an inhibitory effect on the formation rate of amines. The genotoxicity of MPI was found to be higher in rats than in mice, with the highest concentrations being detected in urine samples. Mutagenicity was increased when MPI was combined with fatty acids, which may be due to its ability to induce lipid peroxidation.
