It is used as an additive in paint, coatings, and sealants to provide a protective barrier or to improve the surface properties of zirconium oxide. Octadecyltriethoxysilane also has analytical applications in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and fluorescence probe techniques. In addition, octadecyltriethoxysilane can be used as a hydrochloric acid scavenger in chromatographic processes.
