It is an orally active molecule and has shown to decrease blood pressure in mice by acting on glutamic dehydrogenase, which is the enzyme responsible for the conversion of glutamate to 2-pyrimidinol. 2-Pyrimidinemethanol has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of peptidomimetic activity in humans. This drug may also be effective in treating sciatic nerve damage by inhibiting the enzyme that converts lysine to lysinoalanine.
