Descrizione:5-Phenyl-5-ethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid is a molecule that has a molecular structure consisting of an asymmetric carbon atom. The molecule can exist in two enantiomers, which have the same chemical formula but differ in their three dimensional orientation. The two enantiomers can be distinguished by their different interactions with the cavity of beta cyclodextrin. 5-Phenyl-5-ethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid was found to interact with the beta cyclodextrin cavity in a catalytic manner, and this interaction was found to affect the rate of reaction between 5-phenyl-5-ethyl-2 thiobarbituric acid and hydrogen peroxide. This is because it leads to an increase in activation energy and absorbance values.
