It is used in detergent compositions and as a pigment. Solvent violet 13 is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, esters, and acetones. The solubility of solvent violet 13 can be altered by changing the pH value of the solution. Solvent violet 13 exhibits an acidic character with a pKa of about 3.5 to 4.5 and a phase transition temperature above 100°C. It can be cationically polymerized with anionic or neutral polymers to form polymeric matrices for film-forming applications. Radiation can crosslink the polymer chains to form polymeric matrices for radiation curing applications.
