Sodium 1-Octadecanesulfonate has been used as an emulsifier and stabilizer for calcium stearate. It also is used as a viscosity modifier in polymeric matrices, such as sodium salts. The formation rate of this compound is 0.6 grams per kilogram of weight per hour at 20 degrees Celsius with water vapor present. This chemical can be found in fatty acid esters, which are used in thermally sensitive products such as candles and soaps.
