It has insulin-like growth factor activity and is an antimalarial drug. 2-Trifluoromethyl-4-chloroquinoline has been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation by binding to receptor tyrosine kinases, which are found in cancer cells. The mechanism of action for this drug may be due to its ability to interfere with the tyrosine kinase domain of the receptors, thereby blocking the phosphorylation of receptor tyrosine residues. The aromatic ring system in 2-Trifluoromethyl-4-chloroquinoline can also bind colchicine, a chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits mitosis and DNA synthesis in eukaryotic cells.
