It has been shown to induce autophagy and apoptosis in cancer cells and may be a potential treatment for various types of cancer. The mechanism by which (E)-3-(1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-1-(6,6'-dichloro)-2,4'-biphenylquinoline induces autophagy is not fully understood but may involve the following: (i) activation of AMP kinase via the mTOR pathway; (ii) induction of PGC1α expression; and (iii) inhibition of AKT phosphorylation.
