It also causes cell death by triggering apoptosis, or programmed cell death, through interference with the mitochondria’s ability to produce ATP. Diethyl (4-methoxybenzyl)phosphonate can also cause DNA damage and inhibit tumor growth by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis, or formation of new blood vessels.
