Diethyl (2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)phosphonate also has chiral properties and can be used as a chiral catalyst for the polymerization of olefins. This molecule is soluble in water and other polar solvents. It also has a high absorption capacity for ultraviolet light. Diethyl (2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)phosphonate is metabolized by bacteria into diethyl phosphate, which is then hydrolyzed by esterases or glucuronidases to form phenol. This molecule also has antiplatelet activity and can inhibit blood platelet
