Product Information
Name:2-Methyl-5-phenyloxazole
Brand:Biosynth
Description:2-Methyl-5-phenyloxazole is a reactive, phenacyl oxone that is used as an analogously to the oxadiazole. The oxadiazole is a heterocyclic compound with two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. 2-Methyl-5-phenyloxazole reacts with primary alcohols in the presence of acetonitrile, carbon tetrachloride, or butyronitrile to form esters. This reaction can be carried out efficiently at room temperature without the need for a catalyst. The reaction proceeds through a nucleophilic substitution reaction in which the alcohol group on the reactant attacks the electrophilic double bond of 2-methyl-5-phenyloxazole. It also undergoes an intramolecular cyclization that forms benzonitrile from hydrochloric acid in trifluoromethanesulphonate.
