Dimethylethylamine is a nucleophile that attacks the carbon of alane to form the oxindole ring. There are two possible stereoisomers for the oxindole ring: the hexacyclic and the particle. The oxoindole ring can be formed by adding an oxygen atom to one of the carbons in either of these rings. The constant for this reaction is -0.25 kcal/mol at 25°C.
