Description:2-(Butylthio)ethanol is an organosulfur compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used to catalyze the reaction of hydrochloric acid with alkoxy groups and nucleophilic groups to form chlorides. 2-(Butylthio)ethanol also reacts with hydroxyl groups or alcohols to produce thiols or sulfonic acids, respectively. 2-(Butylthio)ethanol has a high selectivity for chlorine atoms over other elements, such as oxygen and nitrogen, due to its high affinity for hydrogen bonding.
