Description:Boron trifluoride-methanol solution is an acylation agent that reacts with a carboxylic acid. It has antioxidative properties and can be used as a medium for the detection of hydrogen fluoride. Boron trifluoride-methanol solution can also be used to polymerize cationic monomers in a water-based system. This reaction is reversible and does not require heating, making it useful in analytical methods such as titrimetric analysis. Boron trifluoride-methanol solution is used in the preparation of some Chinese medicines, including p-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) and amides, which are organic compounds that contain nitrogen and carbon atoms. The reaction between HBA and carbon disulphide produces an ether known as methyl benzoate.
