It can be used as an allylation reagent, for the conversion of sulfides to sulfoxides, and for the dehydrobromination of allyl alcohols. 1-BCT is soluble in hexane and ether, and it reacts with phenyl to give a mixture of two cyclopropanes. 1-BCT also reacts with thiols and other electrophiles, such as chloroformates and amines, to form thiocarbonyl compounds.
