Description:2-Cyano-3-(3-chlorophenylethyl)pyridine is a condensation product of 3-chlorobenzaldehyde and 2,4-dichloroaniline. It can be catalytically hydrogenated to form 2-cyano-N-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)acetamide in an alkaline condition. The condensation reaction proceeds well at a temperature of about 0°C and the alkaline condition can be obtained with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
