The crystal structure of this compound has been determined in both the acetal and ethyl cyanoacetate forms. 5,5-Dimethyl-3-(phenylamino)cyclohex-2-en-1-one reacts with oxygen at high temperatures to form 5,5'-dimethylisatin. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and may be useful in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
