It was incorporated into recombinant human low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) to study the effect of acidic hydrolysis on their composition. Fmoc-Asp(OH)-OtBu is a fluorescent compound that can be detected using spectroscopy. It is also used as an amino acid residue in solid-phase peptide synthesis to synthesize peptides with an aspartyl residue at the N terminus.
