    Product Information

    Name:Gestrinone
    Controlled Product
    Brand:Biosynth
Description:Gestrinone is a synthetic steroidal hormone that binds to the progesterone receptor. It has been used in the treatment of endometriosis, although its efficacy is questionable. Gestrinone is a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, which leads to an anti-inflammatory effect. Gestrinone also suppresses gonadotropin secretion from the pituitary gland by reducing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release. The drug has been found to have contraceptive activity in vivo and in vitro, but it does not appear to inhibit ovulation or fertilization. Gestrinone inhibits estrogen synthesis by blocking the conversion of estradiol benzoate into estradiol during pregnancy. This drug also inhibits aromatase activity and has been shown to be effective against endometriosis in humans. However, gestrinone is associated with side effects such as nausea, breast tenderness, weight gain, headache, depression and fatigue
