Product Information
Name:Glyphosate
Synonyms:
- (Carboxymethylamino)methylphosphonic acid(N-Phosphonomethyl)glycineGlyGranGlyfos
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide that has been shown to have carcinogenic potential. It inhibits the EPSPS enzyme, which is involved in the synthesis of aromatic amino acids, and blocks the shikimate pathway. Glyphosate also inhibits plant metabolism by blocking the synthesis of essential plant enzymes, leading to cell death. The redox cycle of glyphosate may be related to its toxicity. Glyphosate has been shown to inhibit hepatic enzymes and cause liver impairment in rats. The antimicrobial activity of glyphosate may be due to inhibition of microbial protein synthesis by binding to 16S ribosomal RNA. Glyphosate has also been shown to induce resistance in insects.
