It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of prostate cancer cells in culture, as well as inhibiting the growth of rat liver microsomes. 3-Hydroxy thalidomide has been shown to be suitable for oral administration and it has a long half-life, making it suitable for treatment in patients who cannot tolerate other drugs. 3-Hydroxy thalidomide also inhibits the growth factor basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects.
