Product Information
Name:Hexafluoro-2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-butanediol
Synonyms:
- Perfluoropinacol
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Hexafluoro-2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-butanediol is a cavity-forming molecule that has been shown to inhibit the replication of hepatitis A virus in vitro. It is an acid that reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form hexafluoro-2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)propane, which has been used as an analytical method for determining the amount of fatty alcohols present in compounds. Hexafluoro-2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-butanediol has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of viral RNA and to bind to the site specific region of the virus' genome. Hexafluoro-2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-butanediol can be synthesized by reacting a hydroxy group with a fluorine atom.
