Lithium methoxide is formed in the reaction of lithium metal with methanol, glycerin, or ethylene oxide. This process produces a particle that can be seen under a microscope, so it is also known as "lithium soap." It has also been shown to have electrochemical impedance spectroscopy properties that are similar to those of fatty acids.
