It is a heterocycle that inhibits the formation of nitrosamines by reacting with endogenous amines at the carboxy group and also has an inhibitory effect on the production of reactive oxygen species. 2-Methoxyacetimidamide hydrochloride prevents serotonin reuptake, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) and catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT). This drug has also been shown to inhibit various cyclic compounds such as benzimidazole and triazine.
