Product Information
Name:2-Methoxynaphthalene
Synonyms:
- 2-Naphthol methyl ether2-Naphthyl methyl ether6-Methoxy-2-naphthalene
Brand:Biosynth
Description:2-Methoxynaphthalene is a colorless solid that is soluble in carbon disulphide, acetone, and benzene. It can be synthesized by reacting naphthalene with acetic anhydride. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of an acylium ion intermediate, which reacts with a nucleophile to form the final product. 2-Methoxynaphthalene has been used as a food additive in certain ice cream products. This compound is also used as a zeolite catalyst for the production of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycols. In addition, it has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of hydrochloric acid and hydrogen bonds.
2-Methoxynaphthalene dissolves readily in strong acids such as hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride. The solubility increases with temperature and decreases with increasing pressure
