Description:3-Methyl-4-nitrobenzeneamine is a chemical compound that can be used as a reagent in the identification of proteins and peptides. It reacts with sulfonic acids to form 3-methyl-4-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid, which can be identified using chromatography. The 3-methyl group on the nitrobenzeneamine is an orthophosphate mimic that facilitates the formation of an insoluble salt with bovine serum albumin. This reaction is shown by the change in morphology from crystallised to amorphous and by increased turbidity due to precipitation of the protein. 3-Methyl-4-nitrobenzeneamine has been synthesised for use in molecular response studies and can be oriented for peptide mass fingerprinting. This chemical compound reacts with amines, such as tryptic, producing nitrosamines.
