Description:6-Methoxy-2-tetralone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity and may be useful as an antidote for organophosphate poisoning. It is also used as a solvent for manufacturing other substances. The synthesis of 6-methoxy-2-tetralone starts with the reaction of 3,4-dimethoxyphenol with 2 moles of chloroacetic acid. This reaction produces 3,4-dichlorophenylacetic acid, which reacts with sodium methoxide to produce 6-methoxy-2-tetralone. The product can then be purified by chromatography or recrystallization.
6-Methoxy-2 tetralone is an enantiomer of 2,3,5,6 tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene and is a β -unsaturated ketone. As a result
