Synonyms:
- 3-(2-Aminoethyl)-7-methylindole
Brand:Biosynth
Description:7-Methyltryptamine is a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis. It inhibits the activity of enzymes in serotonergic neurons by binding to surface glycoproteins, which prevents the formation of serotonin and dopamine. 7-Methyltryptamine has been used clinically as an antidepressant and anxiolytic agent. In animal models, this drug has been shown to have a significant inhibitory effect on the serotonergic system. It is also active against glutamate receptors and blocks the binding of MK-801, an NMDA antagonist. 7-Methyltryptamine binds to serotonin receptors with high affinity in the central nervous system (CNS) and inhibits uptake into synaptosomes from both nerve terminals and synaptic vesicles.
