Description:5-Methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is a dihedral molecule that has two isomers. The active methylene group is coordinated with the metal ion and the carbon disulphide molecules, forming a trigonal bipyramidal geometry. The reaction products of 5-methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde are thrombin inhibitors, which inhibit the process of blood clotting by preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. 5-Methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde also reacts with bases to form salts, such as potassium phosphate, which can be used for biological studies. This compound has been shown to have anticancer activity due to its ability to inhibit DNA replication in cancer cells.
