Description:4-oxocyclopentane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is a macrocyclic compound that acts as an inhibitor of proteases. It inhibits the reaction of a peptide bond with a carboxyl group at the C-terminal end of the substrate. A macrocyclic compound can also inhibit protein synthesis by inhibiting the attachment of amino acids to ribosomes. This enzyme inhibition prevents the formation of polypeptides and proteins. 4-oxocyclopentane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid has been shown to selectively inhibit brucine protease and other proteases in vitro.
