Synonyms:
  • Phenethyl isothiocyanate 2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate
Brand:Biosynth
Description:2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the Brassica family. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria and fungi. This compound has been shown to denature proteins, which may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with protein amino acid side chains. 2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate also prevents biofilm formation by inhibiting cell adhesion, which may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid biosynthesis in lung fibroblasts. 2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate has been shown to reduce the growth of lung fibroblasts at high salt concentrations, which may be due to its ability to interfere with the uptake of chloride ions.
