Description:2-Pyridin-3-yl-1H-benzimidazole belongs to a class of supramolecular compounds that have significant antiproliferative activity. It is also a fluorescent light emitting compound, which can be used as a photoluminescent probe for locating hydrogen bonding interactions in supramolecular systems. The molecule has been crystallized and studied using X-ray diffraction techniques. This compound reacts with water molecules to form hydrogen bonds, and the crystal packing of this molecule is modeled through molecular modelling. The coordination geometry of the benzimidazole ring system is octahedral with two chlorides, one proton, and two water molecules. 2-Pyridin-3-yl-1H-benzimidazole has optical properties that make it an ideal candidate for use in organic electronics devices such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
