Description:6-Pyridin-4-yl-2H-pyridazin-3-one is a cardiotonic agent that has been shown to increase cardiac contractility in animals. It is an intermediate of the synthesis of other drugs such as sulfanilamide and hydralazine. 6-Pyridin-4yl-2H-pyridazin-3-one has also been used in the synthesis of other drugs, including sulfonylureas, which are used to treat diabetes mellitus. This compound is structurally related to hydrazine, which is a toxic substance with cardiotonic effects. 6-Pyridin-4yl-2Hpyridazin 3 one is effective at lowering blood pressure by blocking sodium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells and inhibiting calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum in heart muscle cells.
