Description:6-Phenylhexyl isothiocyanate (6PITC) is a natural compound that has pharmacological properties and biological activities. It is the major component of wasabi, horseradish, and mustard oil. 6PITC has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is an enzyme that synthesizes DNA from RNA, and the synthesis of proteins in hl-60 cells. 6PITC also induces apoptosis in myeloma cell lines and inhibits the growth of human myeloma cells by inducing mitochondrial membrane potential collapse. This agent may be useful as a chemotherapeutic agent because it also inhibits cancer cell proliferation by altering histone acetylation levels.
