Product Information
Name:L-Serine beta-naphthylamide
Synonyms:
- L-Ser-bNAL-b-Hydroxyalanine b-naphthylamide
Brand:Biosynth
Description:L-Serine beta-naphthylamide (LSNA) is a biochemical that is used to treat meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis, which is resistant to penicillin. LSNA is an amphipathic molecule and has a carboxyl group on one end and a amide group on the other. It is soluble in water, but dissolves poorly in organic solvents such as chloroform or ether. LSNA inhibits the growth of N. meningitidis by binding to the bacterial cell membrane and causing lysis of the cell wall. This action can be attributed to its amphipathic nature, which allows it to pass through the lipid bilayer of the bacterial membrane. The drug also inhibits proteolytic activity and may inhibit protein synthesis at high concentrations, but this has not been confirmed.
