Description:Tosyl-L-phenylalanine is a drug that inhibits proteolytic activity. It has been shown to reduce disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, as measured by joint counts and erythrocyte sedimentation rates. Tosyl-L-phenylalanine is an inhibitor of the enzyme form of the mitochondrial membrane potential, which is involved in ATP synthesis. The drug also binds to DNA and prevents transcriptional regulation by binding to nuclear proteins. This inhibition of transcriptional regulation may be useful for treating cancer cells because it prevents tumor cells from dividing and forming new colonies.
