Description:Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) chloride hexahydrate is an efficient, non-toxic chemical reagent for the detection of single-stranded DNA in a wide range of biological samples. It has been shown to be a sensitive and specific method for the detection of DNA in apoptotic cells. The fluorescent properties of Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) chloride hexahydrate can be used to stain nuclei and cytoplasmic components in fixed cells or tissue sections. Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) chloride hexahydrate is also able to bind to double stranded DNA with high affinity and specificity. This compound has been used extensively in bioanalysis studies as well as a number of other biological studies.
